Sitting Bull (Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake) was a Hunkpapa Lakota Chief, a distinguished American leader trusted by his tribe and loved by his People (Oyátes). Upholding the sacred, Ceremonial Native American way of life known as the Good Red Road, he was a traditional man who regarded his tribe’s children as Something Sacred Growing (Wakayaja). Could the notion of Wakayaja and the warrior principles that guided Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake hold any healing power for the Oyátes of the modern day USA?

The Higher Haven (THH) answers that question with WWSBD, a creative, new workshop that takes a spiritual look at the life of Sitting Bull. We’ll discuss Native American Ceremony, we’ll spend time in nature, and we’ll consider the Lakota teaching of Matakuye O’yasin, the notion that all things are alive and interconnected. And we’ll do it all with storytelling, laughter and some of the very songs that Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake may have sung 150 years ago. Come out to THH, learn and be respected for who you are, return uplifted, and gain a new understanding of and renewed pride in what it means to be American.
